Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with CMAW Local 506 members who will be involved in the construction of a number of ships for the Canadian government. Harper is the first prime minister ever to visit the 110-year-old shipyard on Pemberton Street in North Vancouver.
He was on hand for a signing ceremony on a federal government contract which will provide more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs. He provided some details on the yard’s first job, the Polar 8 Icebreaker the John Diefenbaker.
