CMAW Local 506 Shipbuilders member Shawn Sly is interviewed for the program "Working Lives on BBC Canada"

Five very different people from Vancouver talk about their lives.

Shawn Sly rises at 5am every day to work at Vancouver port, Canada's biggest.

He helps build the barges and cargo vessels transporting the country's rich natural resources. Work has often been sporadic, with Mr Sly laid-off from time to time because work has dried up.

He hopes a new billion-dollar contract signed with the Canadian government, however, will keep him employed for many years.
