MAY 2011 - BC BARGAINING UPDATE Negotiations have started for a renewal of 2010 Agreement! The Construction Labour Relations is the organization that represents all Union Construction contractors in the Province of BC. CMAW is at the table negotiating the terms and conditions of the Province wide Standard Commercial/Institutional and Industrial Collective Agreement renewal on behalf of the CMAW Carpenters and Scaffolders.

There are several forest fires continuing to burn in areas north of Fort McMurray. Alberta Sustainable Resource Development has been making good progress controlling the fire in the vicinity of the Horizon site. Their strategies will assist in reducing the amount of smoke impacting air quality in the Wood Buffalo Region.

Canadian Natural Resources Limited is continuing to respond to the forest fires near the Horizon Oil Sands site. A number of smaller fires were extinguished earlier today and fire protection measures have been set up in several areas near site to reduce the fire threat to Horizon assets.

Our last payment was sent to UBCJA in March 2010 – a full six months ahead of schedule – making our separation final, and our Canadian autonomy officially confirmed. While the victory couldn't have arrived soon enough, making this final separation payment means that CMAW is now free of all ties with UBCJA and also officially the very first all-Canadian building trade union.

Their road trip would take many days, but for the young newlyweds, the journey was an adventure. For them it meant leaving the past behind and finally realizing their dream of building a future together out west.
